Dee Foster
Born and raised in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Dee Foster has had an over 30 year career in art. Dee earned a BFA at the University of Tennessee and worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, screen printer and t-shirt airbrusher. She is now a full time artist. Dee Foster’s art can be described as abstract sculptural painting as she uses textures in most of her work. She calls this style “3Dee.” She uses a “secret” medium to create the deep sculpture on wood panels and loves to add acrylic metallic and iridescent paints. She still uses the airbrush but in a much different way than was used to paint t-shirts. Dee has had success using this style to paint Tennessee walking horses which are the staple of her hometown, Shelbyville, Tn which is the walking horse capital of the world. She continues to add new subjects that can also be created in her 3Dee styles. In addition to her 3DEE style, Dee loves to use a loose "paint, splash then illustrate" style with acrylics and airbrush. She finds this style of art very therapeutic. Dee also has the ability to occasionally paint in a more traditional realism style when merited.
Art has always been my passion, which is why I have dedicated my life and career to it. I only started doing sculptural art in 2021 after almost 30 years of airbrushing and screen printing. I have always painted using acrylic paint applied via brush and airbrush, but I wanted to do something never seen before. I like to create horses and other subject matter on wood panels using a material that allows me to sculpt and create texture with an abstract flair in my pieces. I am continuously working on new subject matter for the 3DEE abstract art. Abstract art is a fun and adventurous style of art. The pieces I am currently working on include layers and layers of paint and using a sculpting medium to create depth and texture. The paint in my 3DEE art are a combination of acrylic and metallic paints. I also sometimes use airbrush application in these pieces. My goal is to make each piece look and feel uniquely organic. 3DEE art is made just as much to feel as it is to be enjoyed visually. It is my hope to create art you have never seen before that holds the attention of its viewers via creating a “path” to visually guide the eye around the piece. Art that allows you to see new aspects in it time and time again and changes with the light it is observed in. Art that will keep you coming back for more.
